  • Social media like Pinterest, instagram, and X have had a great impact on my Personal Learning Network. Before starting this class, I would use them mostly for quick entertainment and sometimes to find quick solutions to problems. After learning and applying how useful it can be, I have been mostly interacting with accounts about education news and teaching methods. I have found these pages beneficial for a couple of reasons. First, it is great to see information that will be useful to me in the future instead of videos and posts that offer no real insight into what I will be doing later on in life. Next, these posts and accounts offer great tips into bettering yourself for your profession and how this will lead into being a better educator.
  • The digital divide in education becomes more apparent as time goes on. This trend has been seen for the last couple of years, but I believe most future educators will not suffer from this as teacher's now do. Personally, before moving to the United States, in second to fifth grade my environment was digitally rich. I had introductory classes to computers, their programs, and how to properly manage technology. I am very grateful for that period of my upbringing because it shaped the comfort I have with the usage of technology. After moving, we saw mostly paper assignments up until the pandemic. I believe the events of 2020 marked a great shift in education. We were introduced to digital meetings, fully online resources, and the over-usage of programs like canvas. Due to this, I have what I believe is some mastery over technology. Many teachers though, struggled during this period. There are many things they could've improved on but I don't blame them for that year and a half of technological struggles.
  • Collaborative writing and social annotation offer an insight into what the future of education can hold. The software I would feel most comfortable using is google docs. In this program, students and peers can be invited to a document and offer notes, annotations, and even comments on the writing. It also offers the option of letting others make changes on your document which would also be useful in a class setting. These tools can be used to foster learning by letting other students help each other. As a student, when I would receive notes on my papers from my teachers I would often feel embarrassed of the mistakes I made. When somebody close to you helps, it can be less embarrassing and stressful because they have made the same mistakes before. A lesson I might use this in can be when writing an essay. The assignment can include turning in two rough drafts, that way in those two they have to collaborate with others in order to correct their mistakes before eventually submitting their final paper.
